The Paragon Theatre opened its doors on April 2nd, 2009, and has since become synonymous with quality live music in the city of Halifax. As the city’s only consistent 250 + capacity venue it has helped to fill the void left by the closure of the Marquee Club in February of 2009. Former Marquee Club entertainment director Craig Mercer teamed up with artist Peter Farmer and general manager Mark Townsend to open this unique new music venue / café / art gallery. Extensive renovations to the Marquee Club have made the Paragon a much-improved space. A second stage has been added to the front room for more intimate performances. An art gallery exists within the venue, marrying both the visual and auditory arts in a unique way. Curtains have been installed to make the space malleable and accommodating for crowds anywhere between 50 and 600 patrons. The sound and lighting rigs have been improved, and the venue now houses 3 projectors and screens and 3 flat screen televisions for presentations and to ensure that patrons can view the show from everywhere in the room.
The Paragon has quickly picked up where the Marquee Club left off becoming one of the most sought after venues in the country for touring artists to perform.
Since its’ opening the Paragon has housed shows from such artists as Thunderheist, Kid Koala, Mixmaster Mike, Hey Rosetta!, Elliot Brood, Slowcoaster, King Kahn and BBQ, Team Canada, Skratch Bastid, and hundreds more. In keeping with the mandate of helping local talent reach a broader fan-base.
